The Tour
We take you on a walking tour of the most famous sites of ancient Rome
- the Coliseum, the Forum and Palatine Hill. On the way we will tell you about the intriguing and terrifying events which formed the Eternal City. We will visit the Roman Coliseum and learn about its amazing structural design and how it became known as “il Colosseo”. We will share stories about the amazing and terrifying events which took place in its sand and wooden arena, where thousands of gladiators and other Roman personalities fought to their death or were fed to wild beasts in front of thousands of screaming Roman fans. Next door is the Roman Forum, the heart of Ancient Rome - the political, economic, and social center of the Roman Empire. Here we will witness excavations of one of the most astounding archaeological sites in the world, which was buried up to 30 feet underground for over a thousand years. Visiting the temples, basilicas, and markets of Imperial Rome we will gain a deeper understanding of how the Romans lived. We will also visit the legendary memorial site to Julius Caesar, see where he was assassinated and view his funeral site - where tradition maintains Marc Anthony began his famous speech with, “friends, Romans, countrymen…” We will then climb above the Forum to visit the Palatine, on one of the seven hills of Rome. According to tradition, Rome was founded in 753 B.C. by the legendary twins Romulus and Remus. Rome's earliest inhabited neighborhood has some of the oldest dwellings. We will learn why the Roman Emperors preferred this hill for their majestic palaces. We will end the tour with a panoramic view of the Circus Maximus, home to the famous chariot races. Book now and enjoy an enlightening journey into Rome's ancient past! |
